A pool can look reasonably clear while its filter is working far harder than it should. A cartridge should be cleaned carefully with a controlled spray between the pleats. Aggressive pressure can damage the filtration media, while leaving packed debris behind limits circulation. Sand filters

DE filters
Diatomaceous earth, or DE, filters offer exceptionally fine filtration and can produce polished, sparkling water. They also require precise handling. When pressure rises, a DE filter may need to be backwashed and recharged with the correct amount of DE powder.
At least once or twice a year, depending on use and conditions, a more complete cleaning is often appropriate. This involves opening the tank, inspecting the grids or fingers, removing accumulated oils and scale, and checking internal parts. Using too little or too much DE after service can affect filtration and equipment performance, so accuracy matters.
